Things to Do Around Vitznau & Lucerne
For guests arriving early, staying a few extra days, or looking for something to do during the day on Saturday before the wedding, the Lake Lucerne region offers incredible scenery, charming towns, and easy mountain excursions. Many of these can be enjoyed in just a few hours.
Known as the “Queen of the Mountains,” Mount Rigi sits directly above Vitznau. Guests can take the historic cogwheel train from Vitznau to Rigi Kulm for sweeping views of Lake Lucerne and the surrounding Alps. There are also scenic walking paths and restaurants at the summit.
Mount Rigi
One of Switzerland’s most famous mountain excursions. Many visitors enjoy the Golden Round Trip, which includes a boat ride from Lucerne, the steepest cogwheel railway in the world up to the summit, and a gondola ride back down the mountain. Plan about half a day for the full experience.

Lucerne is just 25 minutes from Vitznau by boat or train and is one of Switzerland’s most charming cities. Walk across the iconic Chapel Bridge, wander the cobblestone streets of Old Town, browse local shops, and enjoy lunch or coffee along the Reuss River.
